The Hunt Continues

So, we really gotta get a move on here.  Literally.

We lose possession of our current home on August 13, 2010 (ha ha!  New owners moving in on Friday the 13th!)  We currently have no place to live.  We do own a tent though, so we should be OK.  heh.

We really like a house on Fernleaf.  The current owners want way to much for it though.  Considering it's a three bedroom, one bathroom vintage 1975 home, we have a lot of updating to do.  Starting with new carpets throughout.  Move on to gut the one and only bathroom because it still has 1975 MIRRORED WALLS (seriously, who wants to watch themselves pee????) and then gut and rebuild the kitchen.  Yes it's July 15th.  Yes we'd need to be living in that place by August 13th.  We can do it!  We're ambitious that way.  Or dumb.  You pick.

We offered them $10K less than what they were asking.  Keep in mind they've over inflated what the house is worth by $33 000 according to the property assessment, and the basement is still unfinished...  they wouldn't take it.  Their house has been on the market for 31 days now.  In the Winnipeg housing market, right now, houses go up for sale on Wednesdays typically, hold two open houses over the weekend and accept offers the following Tuesday.  Bing Bang Boom, house is sold.  And these guys started out an additional $10K over what they are currently asking.  Sigh,

My problem is that it's a good house with good bones, a good size, in a place that I'm really happy with.  We have the ability to pay what they are asking.  And I've become rather attached to the idea that I'd get a brand new kitchen, bathroom, flooring and be able to build the basement exactly how I want it, with my dream laundry / craft room.  Yes, it's a lot of work to build a kitchen, bathroom and basement from scratch.  And paint a whole house.  But it's not work we're afraid of.  Should I just bite the bullet and buy the house??

It's got the yard, the apple tree, the deck needs work but eh?  Once you've built a kitchen, bathroom and basement from scratch, what's a deck???

We've seen over 25 houses already.  We're looking at four more tonight.  We've been outbid on one, and had our bid turned down on this one.  But I think I really want it.  Enough to pay for it.  Sigh.  Being a grown up is sometimes annoying!

On the plus side, one of the houses we are going to look at is four houses down from the Boo's new school.  it's insanely dated... so we'll see what it's like.  Wish us luck!  Or offer us some room in your house!  There's two adults, two kids and a cat.  :-P

That is a lot of house hunting! How frustrating. Hang in there. The perfect house will come your way.
